Inna Shevchenko, had sought asylum after she began to receive threats for her destruction of a three-meter high wooden cross with the figure of Christ on it in February over the trial of four Russian Pussy Band feminists who were detained for staging their protest in Moscow Cathedral.
This is the first time a member of the notorious Femen group is given political asylum and Shevchenko considers it a political win as it is an opportunity for globalizing their movement.
Femen is know for its topless protests for various issues. They have defended homosexuality in France in the same manner.
They have also staged similar protests in Tunis and Germany over which they have been jailed temporarily.
